Bloodstone--an excerpt

The tiny village was wrapped in slumber. Its thick walls were secured keeping out the beasts and those who sought to harm them. Inside the walls, small shacks made of thatch were closest, forming a ring around the bigger and nicer houses that held the dignitaries and those in power or who had money. In the very center of the village was the Mayor’s home, a multi story dwelling that held the Mayor and his fat wife as well as their beautiful daughter.

The attack came at night while the village slept, the watchers on the wall too much at ease since it had been so quiet of late. One lone scout slunk through the shadows toward the center of the village, finding the home of the mayor of the small village. He came in through an unbarred window, slicing at the mayor’s sleeping form. He woke for just an instant, just as the intruder sliced his throat, leaving him gurgling in his own blood.

His wife fared little better, though she slept through the attack, not even flinching when a sword was thrust through her heart. He left them there, blood dripping from their wounds, soaking through the linen bed clothes and puddling on the rush covered floor of the house.

His eyes wandered through the richly appointed rooms, searching for the most treasured of items in the house. He found her, a young girl of eighteen summers sound asleep in her bed. A smile formed upon his mottled face, his skin gray, his hair oily and wispy around his ears.

She was beautiful, golden and pink and cream, her skin flawless, slightly rosy with sleep. Her breasts rose and fell in sleep under the linen shift that she wore. It clung to her curves as she’d kicked off the blankets, molding to her rounded hips and giving hint to the color of her nipples in the light of the fire that burned brightly in her room.

Clasping a hand over her mouth, the scout lifted her in his arms, binding her in the blankets so that she could not move. He carried the girl quickly and easily through the house, slipping out the front door and keeping to the shadows.

He was in and out so quickly that his presence was like a nightmare. A shadowed dream, slipping through the night to haunt minds and terrify children. His burden barely registered upon his mind, set as it was to do his master’s bidding. Even as she kicked and squirmed in his arms, he never lost sight of that goal, to bring the girl to his master for she was the only thing that stood between him and achieving his dream.

The road flew behind him as he ran lightly down the paths outside the gates of the village. The moon touched the night with an aura of silver, creating patterns of evil creatures from the shadows of the bare trees. He passed them by with nary a glance, running, always running.

The stitch in his side was like a mighty cramp and his breath whistled coming from lungs over taxed but he dared not stop. Night was quickly coming to an end and he could not be found on these paths with the sun’s dawning.

“Quit,” he hissed at the bundled girl. “Quiet or I shall find a way to make you quiet.”

The girl, though slight, was strong. She fought against her captor, kicking and flaying, tossing her head until the blanket loosed around her mouth. Then she screamed, a sound full of rage and terror.

“I killed your parents, girl, not much would stop me from gutting you as well,” he hissed.

The threat, instead of halting her wriggling, set her determination. She managed to uncover her hands, her breath showing white in the cold night air as she pushed and hit at the ugly man who held her captive.

My newest story--Home for the Holidays--An Excerpt.

“Hi Mom! It’s Kenna.”

“Baby!” I could hear the happiness in my mom’s voice and felt that tiny little voice berate me for not calling home more. “Is everything okay?”

“It’s great mom, I just wanted to call and let you know that I got some time off around Christmas and I thought I’d come home. That is if that’s okay?”

“Okay? Okay? That’s wonderful. Your dad will be so happy. He’s been wanting a big family Christmas with all the kids and grandkids. Now that you’re coming, it’ll be perfect. Oh I can’t wait to tell him.”

“Wait, mom, what do you mean all the kids and grandkids? Do you mean Bekka and Steven will be there?”

“Oh honey, it was such a long time ago, can’t you forgive them?”

Yeah, sure mom,” I thought, my brain whirling around the fact that my two timing ex fiancĂ© and my sneaky bitch of a sister were going to be at mom and dad’s for Christmas.

“Honey?”

“Yeah mom,” I said, offhandedly. “Sure.”

“Bring your new beaux home with you, baby. We’re all anxious to meet him.”

“Yeah mom,” I said, having problems getting the last time I’d seen Bekka and Steven out of my mind. It was at my wedding, when she’d come and broke it up to tell Steven that she was pregnant with his child. Two faced blonde bitch.

I finished the conversation with my mom in somewhat of a daze, sitting back in my chair in my small, one bedroom apartment in Lapeer, Michigan. I worked for the State Police Post there. I was a 911 operator and a good one, or at least my last evaluation had said as much. Steven had been one of the officers that I was in charge of keeping track of. I’d managed to pull his ass out of some minor trouble and he’d come in and thanked me. We’d gone out once and then we’d been damn near inseparable.

That was until I made the mistake of taking him home to meet the rest of my family. He’d taken one look at Bekka with her thick blonde hair and baby blue eyes and had barely been able to speak. I should have known then that he wasn’t right for me. If I hadn’t been so stubborn, maybe…

The maybe flew from my head as I heard a knock on the door to my apartment. “Who is it?” I yelled through the door even though I was pretty sure I knew who it was.

“Delivery!”

I knew that voice. I heard it almost everyday at work in the cubicle behind mine. “Get in here,” I said, opening the door and dragging Nicky in. “What are you delivering?” I asked, the sound of lust in my voice could have either been for the food in his hands or for the hands holding the food. Both were lust worthy.

Nicholas Evans, six feet two inches of pure male, he preyed on my mind and my libido on a regular basis. But try to get him to realize that. I sighed, wishing that I could be more like my pretty sister Bekka, with her confidence and her fashion sense. Instead, I got the Irish in the family. Red hair that held a lot of curl no matter how many times I tried to straighten it. Green eyes that always sparkled with a hint of deviltry, even after what Steven had done to me. A smattering of freckles were on my nose. They were my cute factor and a place every single man I’d ever dated had felt the need to kiss.

I was curvy instead of lithe and lean, holding onto about ten extra pounds that no amount of sit ups or runs at the track would get rid of. Where Bekka was model height and weight, I was the shortest in the family. Even Mara was taller than I was and she was the youngest in the family, still in school.

“What’s wrong?” Nick asked, holding the food above his head where he knew I couldn’t reach it. “Tell me and I’d be tempted to share.”

Callie's Shadow--An excerpt

Callie’s Shadow

Chapter One

Her nose twitched. Lifting her face into the cooling breeze of dusk, she inhaled deeply, a small smile touching her full lips. Callie Anne Wolfe had found their prey. The walkie-talkie squealed when she hit the talk button and she hurriedly turned it down, not wanting to alert their target.

“I got him,” she said softly into the mic. “Two blocks north of Main just off Neppesing Lake Road.”

Shadow’s voice came over the small speaker. “Stay put, Raven. We’re on our way. Do not try to apprehend him on your own, understand?”

“Yeah sure,” Callie said but she didn’t hit the talk button. Sarcasm dripped from her words. “More macho bullshit. I can take care of myself better than anyone on this team.”

She reached into the small holster at her back and plucked out her specially designed taser. It gave off a stun twice as strong as a normal police issue taser and was made to Callie’s specifications. Of course, the targets that her team went after were a lot stronger and a lot scary than any serial killer known to man.

“Good thing I’m not a man,” she muttered, pulling up the hood on the team suit she wore.

It fit snugly, outlining every curve and dip she possessed. The suits were made in dark gray leather, cut to fit each member of the team with a small patch on the shoulder with the initials ASP blazoned across it in silver and a place to tuck in her badge at her waist when it was time to look official.

Callie glanced around, searching for the rest of the team. Taking another deep breath, she realized that the subject was moving away and would be beyond even her powerful senses before anyone arrived to back her up.

“Fuck,” she steamed, slapping her palm against her sleek, leather encased thigh. “He’s going to kill me for this.” A sigh escaped her lips as she took off, running lightly in the heeled boots that went with the suit. Following her nose, she slowed when she sensed it was closer.

The mouth of an alley loomed before her, dark and creepy looking, beyond the streetlight. Pressing her back up against the brick of the drugstore, she glanced quickly down the alley. Even her highly advanced senses couldn’t see through the gloom of the alley, leaving her blind as she stepped out of what little light there was into the dark.

Her walkie squelched and she lifted it quickly. “Down two more blocks to the alley. I’m not sure where it is, but it’s in…ah!”

The walkie fell to the ground, shattering. A huge foot slammed down over what was left, smashing it more. One huge, meaty hand reached out and grabbed her arm, yanking her forward and into the brick wall.

Callie felt her skin scrape free against the rough wall, her breath almost knocked out of her lungs by the powerful hand. “Ugh!” She tried desperately to hang on to her taser but it fell from her hands bouncing once into a pile of garbage bags.

Her other arm was grabbed and then something long and thin curled around her ankle, yanking her legs apart so that she was spread eagle against the wall. Her hood was knocked back, a forked tongue flicking at her throat and ear, as if it were tasting her to see how good of a meal she would make.

She struggled, but even her immense strength was no match for this giant. “Let me go, you son of a bitch!”

Callie's Shadow

My Nanowrimo Contest entry is finished. Since them, I have gone back to A Strange New Breed. I've added four new chapters and I'm working on the fifth.

For those of you wondering where Pick of the Litter has gone, it is being published so I had to remove it from my story pages. I do most of my writing for free but I really need money right now, so I have to sell my novels. I'm sorry if some of you are upset by that, but I don't have much of a choice.

Anyway, thanks to all my readers for being so wonderful and patient while I worked on Callie's Shadow for the Nano. I'll continue to update A Strange New Breed as I get the chapters finished.

Take care!!! Happy Holidays!!!

I've finished it!!!!

Callie's Shadow is not finished, but I did get the 50,000 words of the Nano done. Third year in a row I've finished. I'm so excited. Now I need to finish the novel and send it to my publishers. It wrote so easily, gave me no problems on plot or on characters. I kind of like these four as well. They are a lot of fun.

I've not got Messages of Love coming out around Valentine's Day. Endless is coming out, A Fall From Grace will be out, and both of my Slave novels are coming out next year. I have more manuscripts to clean up and send out. So keep watching for titles and dates.

Nanowrimo

Or for those of you who've never heard of it, the National Novel Writing Month. It's torture for those of us who join. We must write a fifty thousand word novel in one month time. The title of mine is Callie's Shadow, another non human story that I am having a blast writing. Watch out for the Were-bunnies! You can find the three chapters that I've written on SOL, or if you wait a few more days, on my Literotica story page. Take care All!!!

I've just received my very first review

on one of my books. Beastly Intentions was reviewed by Fallen Angel Reviews. http://www.fallenangelreviews.com/2007/October/Katie-BeastlyIntentions.htm . Check it out!

I've done it!

I've agreed to be on Sunny Goodman's talk show. I hope you'll stay tuned to find out when and where you can hear me. Sunny will be reading aloud some of my work and then she'll be interviewing me. I'm very excited.

Other good news, knock on wood. Steph's car seems to finally have straightened out. Let's hope it won't be giving me any more troubles.

I've signed up to do the National Novel Writer's Monthly again this year. I've got the idea in my head, I just hope I can make it work. Sometimes these things just flow, other times, well they stutter along terribly. I've been having that problem with my work recently and I'm hoping to get back to the easy flow soon.

I've been assigned an editor for my work through Phaze. I want to thank Will now, before he gets gritting his teeth for helping to make my work as good as it can be.

Okay, back to work on A Strange New Breed. Have a wonderful weekend all.

Radio Show!

I've been invited to be a guest on an online radio blog show. Sunny Goodman from Air Atta Ca Talk sent me an email through my Literotica story page. It's so exciting.

I'm waiting to hear back from Sunny, and once I find out all that this entails, I will be more than happy to let you all know if and when I'll be doing this show. I hope you'll listen.

Can you believe it?

We went and picked up the car. A thousand dollars and two weeks later, Steph drove it up north to visit some friends. She comes home and... yes, you got it, it sprung a leak in the power steering and we have to take it back in and get it fixed. I've decided that the damn car is jinxed, or hexed or something. I was thinking of an exorcism but haven't been able to find anyone willing to do one on a car.

The good news, Endless, Bound by Love, which I have to retitle yet, and A Fall From Grace will be out in the next few months. I have four more manuscripts out with publishers and I'm writing more every day. I can't believe that I finally have found something I love to do and am actually good enough to make a paycheck doing it. Yes, I'm very excited.

Monday, September 24, 2007

Ouch!

Hi all. I've had a long weekend and haven't gotten much writing done. The big news, I've signed contracts for two more manuscripts to be published this spring. I hope you'll look for them.

The bad news, my darling little sis who was so proud about her car. Well, she had a little problem over the weekend and this is what happened...ready?

Good Lord!!!

I haven't written a single word on any story in six days. Six full days. This has never happened to me before.

Saturday, June 16, 2007

I need help.

Most of you know that I've been put under a ton of stress recently. Stephanie breaking up with her boyfriend, the fighting that went on between her and Jessica, loosing Koz. I'm not sure what is causing my problems here, if it is stress related or not. All I know is that I am having a terrible time staying awake. I want to sleep all the time, I find my eyes closing and then realize when I finally pry them open I don't remember anything from the last five minutes.

Does anyone else have anything like this?

Jessica

This is my Jessica, the friend of Stephanie's who has been staying with us. She moved back to Massachusetts a couple of weeks ago and I miss her terribly. She was one of those kids that you could have adopted and kept as your own.
The guy with her is my nephew, Scott. He's a good kid most of the time, or at least until he opens his mouth. These were some of the best pictures we could have gotten.

EXCITING NEWS!!!!

I might have sold a new manuscript to another publishing company. I'm so excited. The publisher told me she loved the strength of my voice and the direction I went with the work. Cross your fingers for me, I would really love to get this done.

Say hello!

To the newest member of my family. His name is Laird Riley Hunter, but we call him Riley. He's pure bred Pomeranian, as well as AKC registered and he's full of piss and vinegar. He's two months old now but when he's full grown, he'll only be a bit over five pounds.

This is my other dog, Rico. He's pure bred Yorkshire Terrier, though I think that should be terror. I've had him since he was six weeks old and he thinks I'm his. I got him after I got Kozzi, he was one of the ugliest Yorky puppies I've ever seen, but he's much cuter now. I guess he just had to grow on me.

My sister

She is beautiful, intelligent, witty, with a sarcastic bent that can make me laugh every time. She just dumped her boyfriend of one year and eight months. Mostly because he was being a

jerk to her all the time. Now, even after almost two weeks, she is miserable, crying and driving me nuts. Help!!!

A Beloved Friend

He was my best friend, my ear when I needed to talk, my companion no matter what time of the day or night. He never minded listening or complained that I talked too much or that he was watching television could we do this later. He snored at night, a sound that gave me comfort and made me know I wasn't alone. He complained occasionally , but was easily appeased by a back rub or a kiss. He passed away June 12, 2007.

His name was Kama Kozzi. He was my Yorkshire Terrier, my friend, my family more than some of the human members ever could be. He made me smile with his silliness, laugh even when I didn't have anything to laugh about. He stayed beside me when I couldn't move through the pain, crawled with me when I couldn't stand up. He let me cry on his shoulder more than once, never minding when I got his fur wet.

Koz was an amazing friend and I was blessed to have him in my life. I will miss him desperately, shed tears for him and be glad that he is no longer in any pain. I love you , Koz!

Saturday, June 02, 2007

It's been a while since I've updated my blog.

Life has been pretty much the same. I'm still working hard at my writing. We've had some changes. My kid sister's friend moved in with us. Then life around here became world war three. They suddenly couldn't stand each other. So if you've ever had two teenage girls in the same house that hated each other, you'll understand everything I mean.

Jessica, Steph's friend, is graduating from high school and will be leaving me as of next week. I'll miss her. She was a lot of fun having around.
