My newest story--Home for the Holidays--An Excerpt.

“Hi Mom! It’s Kenna.”

“Baby!” I could hear the happiness in my mom’s voice and felt that tiny little voice berate me for not calling home more. “Is everything okay?”

“It’s great mom, I just wanted to call and let you know that I got some time off around Christmas and I thought I’d come home. That is if that’s okay?”

“Okay? Okay? That’s wonderful. Your dad will be so happy. He’s been wanting a big family Christmas with all the kids and grandkids. Now that you’re coming, it’ll be perfect. Oh I can’t wait to tell him.”

“Wait, mom, what do you mean all the kids and grandkids? Do you mean Bekka and Steven will be there?”

“Oh honey, it was such a long time ago, can’t you forgive them?”

Yeah, sure mom,” I thought, my brain whirling around the fact that my two timing ex fiancĂ© and my sneaky bitch of a sister were going to be at mom and dad’s for Christmas.

“Honey?”

“Yeah mom,” I said, offhandedly. “Sure.”

“Bring your new beaux home with you, baby. We’re all anxious to meet him.”

“Yeah mom,” I said, having problems getting the last time I’d seen Bekka and Steven out of my mind. It was at my wedding, when she’d come and broke it up to tell Steven that she was pregnant with his child. Two faced blonde bitch.

I finished the conversation with my mom in somewhat of a daze, sitting back in my chair in my small, one bedroom apartment in Lapeer, Michigan. I worked for the State Police Post there. I was a 911 operator and a good one, or at least my last evaluation had said as much. Steven had been one of the officers that I was in charge of keeping track of. I’d managed to pull his ass out of some minor trouble and he’d come in and thanked me. We’d gone out once and then we’d been damn near inseparable.

That was until I made the mistake of taking him home to meet the rest of my family. He’d taken one look at Bekka with her thick blonde hair and baby blue eyes and had barely been able to speak. I should have known then that he wasn’t right for me. If I hadn’t been so stubborn, maybe…

The maybe flew from my head as I heard a knock on the door to my apartment. “Who is it?” I yelled through the door even though I was pretty sure I knew who it was.

“Delivery!”

I knew that voice. I heard it almost everyday at work in the cubicle behind mine. “Get in here,” I said, opening the door and dragging Nicky in. “What are you delivering?” I asked, the sound of lust in my voice could have either been for the food in his hands or for the hands holding the food. Both were lust worthy.

Nicholas Evans, six feet two inches of pure male, he preyed on my mind and my libido on a regular basis. But try to get him to realize that. I sighed, wishing that I could be more like my pretty sister Bekka, with her confidence and her fashion sense. Instead, I got the Irish in the family. Red hair that held a lot of curl no matter how many times I tried to straighten it. Green eyes that always sparkled with a hint of deviltry, even after what Steven had done to me. A smattering of freckles were on my nose. They were my cute factor and a place every single man I’d ever dated had felt the need to kiss.

I was curvy instead of lithe and lean, holding onto about ten extra pounds that no amount of sit ups or runs at the track would get rid of. Where Bekka was model height and weight, I was the shortest in the family. Even Mara was taller than I was and she was the youngest in the family, still in school.

“What’s wrong?” Nick asked, holding the food above his head where he knew I couldn’t reach it. “Tell me and I’d be tempted to share.”

Callie's Shadow--An excerpt

Callie’s Shadow

Chapter One

Her nose twitched. Lifting her face into the cooling breeze of dusk, she inhaled deeply, a small smile touching her full lips. Callie Anne Wolfe had found their prey. The walkie-talkie squealed when she hit the talk button and she hurriedly turned it down, not wanting to alert their target.

“I got him,” she said softly into the mic. “Two blocks north of Main just off Neppesing Lake Road.”

Shadow’s voice came over the small speaker. “Stay put, Raven. We’re on our way. Do not try to apprehend him on your own, understand?”

“Yeah sure,” Callie said but she didn’t hit the talk button. Sarcasm dripped from her words. “More macho bullshit. I can take care of myself better than anyone on this team.”

She reached into the small holster at her back and plucked out her specially designed taser. It gave off a stun twice as strong as a normal police issue taser and was made to Callie’s specifications. Of course, the targets that her team went after were a lot stronger and a lot scary than any serial killer known to man.

“Good thing I’m not a man,” she muttered, pulling up the hood on the team suit she wore.

It fit snugly, outlining every curve and dip she possessed. The suits were made in dark gray leather, cut to fit each member of the team with a small patch on the shoulder with the initials ASP blazoned across it in silver and a place to tuck in her badge at her waist when it was time to look official.

Callie glanced around, searching for the rest of the team. Taking another deep breath, she realized that the subject was moving away and would be beyond even her powerful senses before anyone arrived to back her up.

“Fuck,” she steamed, slapping her palm against her sleek, leather encased thigh. “He’s going to kill me for this.” A sigh escaped her lips as she took off, running lightly in the heeled boots that went with the suit. Following her nose, she slowed when she sensed it was closer.

The mouth of an alley loomed before her, dark and creepy looking, beyond the streetlight. Pressing her back up against the brick of the drugstore, she glanced quickly down the alley. Even her highly advanced senses couldn’t see through the gloom of the alley, leaving her blind as she stepped out of what little light there was into the dark.

Her walkie squelched and she lifted it quickly. “Down two more blocks to the alley. I’m not sure where it is, but it’s in…ah!”

The walkie fell to the ground, shattering. A huge foot slammed down over what was left, smashing it more. One huge, meaty hand reached out and grabbed her arm, yanking her forward and into the brick wall.

Callie felt her skin scrape free against the rough wall, her breath almost knocked out of her lungs by the powerful hand. “Ugh!” She tried desperately to hang on to her taser but it fell from her hands bouncing once into a pile of garbage bags.

Her other arm was grabbed and then something long and thin curled around her ankle, yanking her legs apart so that she was spread eagle against the wall. Her hood was knocked back, a forked tongue flicking at her throat and ear, as if it were tasting her to see how good of a meal she would make.

She struggled, but even her immense strength was no match for this giant. “Let me go, you son of a bitch!”

Callie's Shadow

My Nanowrimo Contest entry is finished. Since them, I have gone back to A Strange New Breed. I've added four new chapters and I'm working on the fifth.

For those of you wondering where Pick of the Litter has gone, it is being published so I had to remove it from my story pages. I do most of my writing for free but I really need money right now, so I have to sell my novels. I'm sorry if some of you are upset by that, but I don't have much of a choice.

Anyway, thanks to all my readers for being so wonderful and patient while I worked on Callie's Shadow for the Nano. I'll continue to update A Strange New Breed as I get the chapters finished.

Take care!!! Happy Holidays!!!

I've finished it!!!!

Callie's Shadow is not finished, but I did get the 50,000 words of the Nano done. Third year in a row I've finished. I'm so excited. Now I need to finish the novel and send it to my publishers. It wrote so easily, gave me no problems on plot or on characters. I kind of like these four as well. They are a lot of fun.

I've not got Messages of Love coming out around Valentine's Day. Endless is coming out, A Fall From Grace will be out, and both of my Slave novels are coming out next year. I have more manuscripts to clean up and send out. So keep watching for titles and dates.

Nanowrimo

Or for those of you who've never heard of it, the National Novel Writing Month. It's torture for those of us who join. We must write a fifty thousand word novel in one month time. The title of mine is Callie's Shadow, another non human story that I am having a blast writing. Watch out for the Were-bunnies! You can find the three chapters that I've written on SOL, or if you wait a few more days, on my Literotica story page. Take care All!!!

I've done it!

I've agreed to be on Sunny Goodman's talk show. I hope you'll stay tuned to find out when and where you can hear me. Sunny will be reading aloud some of my work and then she'll be interviewing me. I'm very excited.

Other good news, knock on wood. Steph's car seems to finally have straightened out. Let's hope it won't be giving me any more troubles.

I've signed up to do the National Novel Writer's Monthly again this year. I've got the idea in my head, I just hope I can make it work. Sometimes these things just flow, other times, well they stutter along terribly. I've been having that problem with my work recently and I'm hoping to get back to the easy flow soon.

I've been assigned an editor for my work through Phaze. I want to thank Will now, before he gets gritting his teeth for helping to make my work as good as it can be.

Okay, back to work on A Strange New Breed. Have a wonderful weekend all.
